Your benefits of using SAP Global Trade Services

SAP GTS is SAP’s strategic product for foreign trade – with a full range of functions. New functions in the SAP GTS edition for HANA, a modern user interface design (Fiori) and targeted automation create a market-leading solution for all internationally operating companies. Get an overview of the central functional areas, in which product classification is used as an overarching element:

Compliance Management

  • Sanctioned party list screening: Detailed sanctions list checks are automated and can be carried out daily using the standard GTS system. GTS offers, for example, a perfect fit support to users in distinguishing between ‘true and false hits’.
  • Embargo: GTS can technically implement all country-specific embargos.
  • Dual-use goods: Classification of relevant materials and comprehensive license management with regular reporting to the BAFA (Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control in Germany), including ELAN K2 integration, are possible. Military goods and US re-export controls can also be fully mapped within GTS.

Customs Management

Export and import processing with optimised preparation of customs declarations. Special customs procedures (e.g. customs warehouses, inward and outward processing) can be mapped, enabling efficient processes and significant cost savings. The NCTS procedure can be implemented for import processing. GTS operates internationally; customs declarations can be prepared for various third countries via integration with the respective national customs authorities.​

 

Risk Management

Using the automated preference processing in GTS delivers competitive advantages and measurable customs benefits. GTS creates and manages supplier declarations, which can be sent cost-effectively by email. Audit-proof preferential calculations are generated. These are based on the bills of materials from the feeder system. It is also possible to map these based on batches or country of origin, as well as variant configuration (KMAT).

 

Electronic Compliance Reporting

This monthly declaration to the national authority can be completed in GTS for Germany and for all European countries. All the necessary data is automatically made available in GTS for final processing. This enables the declaration to be prepared correctly and, above all, very quickly.

Foreign trade in one central system

SAP GTS is designed as a so-called satellite or side-car system, i.e. any number of feeder systems can be connected. These can be SAP ECC, SAP S/4HANA or non-SAP systems. The major advantage of using SAP products is the integration provided as standard. GTS is closely interlinked with SAP’s ERP systems with regard to compliance checks, customs documents and preference processing. You can also connect SAP BW, SAP EWM and SAP TM systems with SAP GTS. We support companies with the migration from GTS 11.0 to GTS edition for SAP HANA. We are looking forward to inform you about the new AI capabilities in GTS.

Which core processes can be mapped using SAP GTSe4H?

As a market-leading tool, SAP GTSe4H was designed as a modular system and is divided into four functional areas:

  • Compliance Management: Automated checks against sanctions lists, embargoes and import/export controls (e.g. dual-use or US re-export).
  • Customs Management: Electronic customs clearance for imports and exports, as well as the management of special customs procedures (e.g. customs warehouses, inward/outward processing).
  • Preference Management: Management of long-term supplier’s declarations (LTSD) and automatic preference calculation based on bills of materials.
  • Intrastat: Monthly reporting of trade in goods within the EU.

How does SAP GTSe4H differ from the tried-and-tested SAP GTS 11.0?

The edition for SAP HANA is a completely new product generation that is not simply an upgrade from GTS 11.0. It is built entirely on the high-performance in-memory platform SAP HANA, benefits from a simplified data model and utilises modern design principles via the intuitive SAP Fiori user interface.

Mainstream maintenance for SAP GTS 11.0 and for SAP GTS, edition for SAP HANA 2020 ended on 31 December 2025. We recommend that you start planning and implementing a system conversion to GTSe4H in good time. This is the only way to continue benefiting from regulatory updates.

Which systems can SAP GTS be integrated with?

SAP GTS is designed as a central foreign trade tool and can be seamlessly integrated into the existing logistics system landscape. It supports SAP S/4HANA (on-premise and cloud), SAP ERP (ECC), SAP Transportation Management (SAP TM) and SAP Extended Warehouse Management (SAP EWM). If required, non-SAP systems can also be integrated as feeder systems.

Can SAP GTSe4H automatically stop deliveries if there is a compliance risk?

Yes. When you create a sales order or a delivery in the feeder system (e.g. SAP S/4HANA), SAP GTS checks these synchronously or asynchronously for embargoes, sanctions lists or approval requirements. If the check returns a negative result, SAP GTSe4H blocks the document and automatically halts the subsequent logistics process in the feeder system (e.g. when creating an order or during goods issue).​

Can SAP GTSe4H handle preference calculations in a way that stands up to audit scrutiny?

Yes, and of course, comprehensive preference processing based on bills of materials has taken on particular significance in an era of unpredictable customs duties and new free trade agreements. This gives companies enormous customs and competitive advantages when supplying goods to certain countries and regions.
