Together we will master secure increase lead win

What food and beverage manufacturers have in common: raw material pressure, compliance load, and a trade that accepts no excuses. What sets them apart: the processes, the risks, the regulatory requirements. adesso business consulting is the partner who understands both. We do not bring one solution for every industry, but deep industry knowledge for each individual segment.

From Data to Context

We design intelligent SAP value creation architectures for the food and beverage industry, from resilient core processes and unified data through AI-driven automation to the autonomous enterprise. Tailored to your business, your products, plants, processes, people, and priorities.

Our goal: an SAP architecture in which processes are integrated, data is contextualized, and decisions are intelligently supported, with clear responsibilities.

This path, from a clear target picture to an automated decision, is what our Food & Beverage North Star Architecture describes.

Clarity in the target picture. Context for better decisions. Speed in implementation.

The four layers of our Food & Beverage North Star Architecture, from click to answer

This is how work changes in four steps, from a single question to an automatically prepared answer. Four layers, one path, from a single application to the autonomous enterprise. Not an AI vision, but the architecture behind it.

Experience Layer: from apps to intent

prozess + systemoptimierung

In simple terms, you type or speak what you want to know instead of clicking through menus. Employees no longer navigate through numerous applications, but express their intent directly. Joule becomes the central point of access, for example for questions about batches, stock, production deviations, quality, or delivery capability.

Process Layer: capabilities instead of isolated applications

gear

Processes work together across systems and plants, without anyone manually carrying data between them. SAP applications provide stable APIs, events, and data. This allows processes such as procurement, production, quality, warehousing, and traceability to be orchestrated across system boundaries and supported by AI agents.

Foundation Layer: data and context as the intelligent core

data analytics

In simple terms, all data from production, quality, and supply chain lands in one place and speaks the same language. SAP Business Data Cloud and the SAP Knowledge Graph connect ERP, production, quality, and supply chain data into a shared business context.

Orchestration, reasoning, and model services enable AI scenarios with SAP-trained models such as SAP-RPT-1 and leading third-party models in a governance-controlled generative AI environment. One example: a deviation in goods receipt is automatically linked to the matching batch and the responsible quality manager, without manual searching across multiple systems.

Platform Layer: reliable AI in enterprise operations

robot

In simple terms, the AI gets clear guardrails so it works reliably instead of guessing. The platform provides runtime, governance, and security mechanisms so that reliable AI agents emerge from individual, stateless models.

They can carry out tasks within defined limits, prepare decisions, and automate processes in a controlled way. One example: an agent may independently report a stock deviation and prepare a proposed solution, but the final approval still rests with a person.

What this means for your next batch

The connection between recipe, batch, plant, quality, stock, and supply chain becomes usable for decisions and processes.

From navigating applications to triggering integrated processes. From data point to business context. From assistance to controlled autonomy.

Experience across every Food & Beverage segment

This impact does not show up in just one plant, it shows up across every Food & Beverage segment we are at home in.

Our experience spans various Food & Beverage segments, from beverages and baked goods to dairies, convenience, confectionery, and meat companies.

Our Food & Beverage North Star Architecture, from data foundation to business context

Data was the competitive advantage of the last decade. Context is the competitive advantage of the next. Whoever links it correctly holds that advantage in the next one.

For Food & Beverage companies, that means not just knowing that a deviation has occurred, but understanding which product, which batch, which recipe, which plant, which supplier, which quality status, and which process step is affected, and what action follows from it.

Our North Star Architecture describes the architectural framework for an increasingly autonomous enterprise. It connects the digital core with production, data, integration, Business AI, and governance.

SAP Cloud ERP as the digital core

SAP Cloud ERP forms the basis for integrated business processes in finance, procurement, planning, production, quality, warehousing, and sales.

Industry-specific requirements such as recipes, batches, shelf life, variants, weight deviations, and traceability are reflected in processes, master data, and roles. The ERP core remains stable and upgradeable.

How this framework is put into practice in SAP is shown by the following building blocks.

Mapping Food & Beverage processes close to standard

protection

We check which requirements can be met in the SAP standard or through configuration, and where a targeted extension makes sense.

This allows core Food & Beverage capabilities such as recipe and specification management, batch tracking, shelf-life planning, quality releases, yield, catch weight, and by-products and co-products to be fitted into a consistent SAP process architecture.

Catch weight, for example, ensures that when product weight varies, such as with fresh meat or cheese, the actual delivered weight is billed automatically instead of a flat target weight.

SAP Digital Manufacturing for production and the shop floor

application management services

SAP Digital Manufacturing supports digital production execution and connects ERP processes with the shop floor.

We integrate production orders, material consumption, confirmations, quality data, and batch information with MES, PLC, SCADA, machine, and lab environments. This creates a consistent data basis for production control, genealogy, and traceability, depending on process design, master data, and the actual system connection.

SAP BTP for integration and extensions

puzzle hand

SAP BTP connects SAP Cloud ERP, SAP Digital Manufacturing, and other SAP solutions with non-SAP systems, plants, suppliers, co-packers, logistics providers, and trading partners.

With the SAP BTP Integration Suite, we design APIs, events, integration processes, monitoring, and suitable adapters. Side-by-side extensions enable additional functions without unnecessarily changing the ERP core.

SAP Business Data Cloud as the data foundation

data analytics

SAP Business Data Cloud creates a foundation for quality-assured, contextualized data from ERP, production, quality, and supply chain.

We define data models, responsibilities, and governance for planning, analytics, and reporting. This makes, for example, stock, demand, production performance, quality, and supply chain information usable within a reliable business context.

SAP Business AI and Joule for intelligent support

robot

SAP Business AI and Joule support employees in suitable SAP business scenarios, for example when analyzing deviations, prioritizing exceptions, preparing relevant information, and preparing decisions.

Business AI is used where data quality, process maturity, and economic viability line up. Automation happens in a controlled, traceable way, with defined rules, approvals, monitoring, and human responsibility.

One Agent-Led Toolchain for your transformation

SAP business technology platform

SAP Cloud ALM supports the transformation operationally, from project planning through test management to monitoring in live operation.

SAP LeanIX creates transparency across applications, dependencies, business capabilities, and target architectures. SAP Signavio supports the analysis, modeling, and further development of your business processes.

Together, all three solutions form a foundation for decision options, target picture, business case, and transformation roadmap, from the existing system landscape to the SAP target architecture.

SAP for compliance and sustainability

adesso active transformation

Traceability, quality evidence, packaging information, supply chain data, and regulatory requirements are integrated into the SAP process and data architecture. This is how we create the foundation for resilient compliance processes and regulatory evidence.

Anchoring SAP transformation in the organization

customer experience

An SAP target architecture only succeeds once it is adopted in the plants, departments, and IT.

We support the rollout with role-based enablement, process harmonization, change management, and clear responsibilities. This way, new SAP processes are not just technically implemented, but anchored in daily operations through people-centered transformation and continuously developed further.

Autonomy is not a feature

An autonomous enterprise is not created by a single AI application. It emerges when processes are integrated, data is contextualized, decisions are prepared, and suitable tasks are automated in a controlled way.

For Food & Beverage companies, that means: technology only works once it is adopted by people, plants, and IT.

Close to standard at the core. Context-capable in the processes. More autonomous where it is sensible and responsible.

Compliance for Food & Beverage

New deadlines and complex intercompany processes, your SAP landscape has to master both. Straight talk from our projects, no marketing buzzwords.

PPWR is already mandatory

Since 12 August 2026, the EU Packaging Regulation applies in full force. Many companies are still struggling with supplier data.

Mastering PPWR without an additional license

Traceability directly in the SAP S/4HANA standard

Traceability, recycled content, and empty-space limits can be mapped in the SAP S/4HANA standard, entirely without SAP Responsible Design and Production. We close your data gaps with real EWM movement data instead of theoretical bills of material. This way you pass the market surveillance authorities’ audit without buying an additional license.

Who owns the goods in transit?

Between sale and goods receipt, ownership transfer remains unclear for many corporate groups.

Advanced Intercompany creates clarity

Valuated in-transit stock for sales and stock transfer

Advanced Intercompany maps sales and stock transfer through valuated in-transit stock, available from SAP S/4HANA 2022. Every batch carries a real-time owner and a value, IFRS 15 event-based revenue recognition secures the margin per entity. The result is a faster close without manual reconciliation.

EUDR reaches you from December

From 30 December 2026, large and medium-sized companies need full origin evidence.

EUDR directly in the SAP standard

Geolocation and batch traceability without a break

We integrate geolocation, due diligence statements, and seamless batch traceability directly into your SAP landscape. An automated attribute back-fill keeps the chain closed even under agile manufacturing. This way the TRACES evidence stands, without your material flows stalling.

Experience from one industry. Value for all.

Our strength lies not only in the industry knowledge for one sector, but in the experience gained across all of them at once. Best practices from batch tracking, scaling concepts that have, for example, proven themselves when rolling out a unified batch concept across several plants, and compliance experience from heavily regulated fields: what has proven itself in one industry speeds up projects in the next.

This knowledge is available to you, no matter which industry you operate in.
